Sacred Night -- Dreamcatcher

Description

Credit goes to *littlesapphire for the name and some of the design work. Thanks much for the help, Jewel! ^_^

I didn't have a particular theme in mind when I sat down to plan this one, as I was working from only the supplies I had with me rather than my full stash. After cobbling together a variety of oddball feathers, beads, and whathaveyou.. it ended up with a theme of sorts anyway. Figures. ;)

It'd look more better on a dark background, but I don't have anything of the sort here so.. too bad. The basic idea is a night sky -- black webbing, 'stars' caught in it, full moon in the center, yadda yadda. It splits a little past the web, though; on the left it's still night, but on the right the braid/trinket/feathers are lighter, with yellows and browns for daylight. It's a bit hard to tell here (yay crappy photos!), but the beads holding the single feathers pay tribute to the four elements. Silver and blue for air and water, brown and red for earth and fire. The key is just because I like keys, though I suppose you can make up your own story for it instead if you'd like.

Sacred Night has a total of seven feathers, more than any other dreamcatcher I've yet made. It also holds the distinction of having not one, but five feathers (the four single feathers and the longest one in the bundle) from my meager collection of "fancy" ones. Fancy meaning mostly that they're in really good shape and have interesting coloration and/or came from a known species I don't find often. I know the white-tipped single feather is from a mallard; the middle inset shows the sheen colors for you. The other four are just neat. I myself adore the little grey one. ^_^ In any case, the fancy feathers were all I really had with me, so there you go!

The shell was my only one here, which was a bit of a surprise. Normally I either have my whole bag of 'em or they're all at home. Worked out well, though, so I can't complain. ;) I also got to use up some of the supplies that I don't get into very often -- braids, shiny trinkets, hemp, and some of my oddball beads. Fun stuff.

As usual, all feathers used were found by yours truly during various hikes, wanderings, and expeditions. I think this particular shell was found by my dad and handed over. The hoop came from my parents' yard when they weeded out some little trees. No glue or other adhesives were used to connect things.
